Lipolysis Vs Liposuction: The latest data and options
Invasive and non-invasive lipolysis and liposuction treatments were the focus of Dr. Tsiatoura’s presentation at this conference. As she explained to the live scientific audience attending the conference, liposuction has been the only solution for decades to reduce localized fat, and although effective, it is an invasive method with limitations and multiple potential risks.
Dr. Tsiatoura presented non-invasive lipolysis treatments that have emerged in recent years as alternatives to traditional liposuction, including cryolipolysis, radiofrequency therapy, ultrasound and injectable lipolysis.
The doctor also mentioned laser-assisted liposuction, a minimally invasive method that brings together many advantages for the patient. It is a treatment that is performed in a clinic setting, leads to a permanent reduction of fat cells, has immediate visible results, a very short recovery and mild possible side effects.
As noted by the doctor, treatments involving non-invasive lipolysis methods saw a 58% increase in 2021 compared to 2020, and for 2021, the total market size for non-invasive lipolysis methods was estimated at $1 billion, with an annual growth rate of 16.1% projected from 2022 to 2030.
In her detailed presentation, Dr. Tsiatoura highlighted the key facts about each method. In closing, the doctor highlighted three very important parameters, common to all treatments, that are important for doctors to take into account:
- Lipolysis – liposuction treatments are not methods of slimming and losing kilos, but of treating localized fat in people close to their normal weight
- There is no ideal treatment and no magic solution
- The key to success lies in the combination of lipolysis and/or liposuction treatments with an individualized approach to the patient
