Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the eyelids to improve their appearance. Blepharoplasty surgery revitalize the look, giving a solution to the scars left by time. With blepharoplasty we can provide a solution with minimally invasive methods and is now one of the most popular and safe procedures in cosmetic plastic surgery. If you have tired eyes, wrinkles, sagging upper eyelid or “bags” under the eyes, then blepharoplasty is the right solution for you.

Blepharoplasty

Indications

Both aging, which is unfortunately inevitable, and the modern lifestyle, initially leads to swelling and the appearance of tired eyes.

The decrease in skin elasticity and the loosening of the eyelid fat leads to sagging of the upper eyelid skin and wrinkles and “bagging” of the lower eyelid. The main indications of blepharoplasty are loosening of the skin of the orbital region (i.e. sagging and drooping of the upper eyelid) and fat loss (commonly called “bagging”) due to the projection of lower eyelid fat giving the appearance of puffy eyes.

Normal ageing is the main cause of tired looking eyes, but other reasons such as heredity and lifestyle can lead to the need for blepharoplasty much earlier.

With blepharoplasty we can provide a definitive solution to all of these with complete safety.

Blepharoplasty

Surgical Procedure

In blepharoplasty of both upper and lower eyelids we remove excess skin, fat or both together, giving a visible result from the first 24 hours. While wrinkles around the eyes are easily treated by injecting botulinum toxin (Botox®, Dysport®), loose skin on the upper eyelid and excess fat on the lower can be treated individually or in combination with blepharoplasty alone.

Cosmetic Derma Medicine’s expert plastic surgeons recommend the appropriate treatment that is individualized for each patient. Due to the vast experience at Cosmetic Derma Medicine, blepharoplasty is always performed under local anesthesia, without intoxication or hypnosis, resulting in a quick recovery and an immediate return to the patient’s activities.

Upper blepharoplasty (removal of the excess skin of the upper eyelid), lower blepharoplasty (removal of fat or skin of the lower eyelid), or a combination of the two (upper and lower blepharoplasty). The procedure of blepharoplasty is minimally invasive, it is performed in our clinic under local anesthesia with 1% xylocaine and 1:200000 adrenaline solution, it is completed in one session and does not require hospitalization.

The duration of the procedure is approximately one to one and a half hours, the patient is conscious and can return home immediately afterwards. The return to activities and work after blepharoplasty is immediate and the results are spectacular and visible from the first few days. The tired and aged look gives way to a youthful, refreshed look.

Postoperative Course

After surgery, it is vital to follow specific post-operative instructions to ensure proper healing and avoid complications.

Do not rub your eyes, as this may cause irritation, inflammation or infection. It is also important to avoid using contact lenses, as they can increase the risk of infection and delay the healing process. Also, avoid strenuous physical activities, such as lifting heavy objects, as they can increase blood pressure and cause bleeding or swelling. To reduce the risk of swelling and discomfort, keep your head elevated when you sleep and use ice packs on your eyelids for the first few days after surgery.

As a precaution, the doctor will prescribe eye drops or an ointment to prevent infection and enhance healing. It is important to carefully follow the instructions for taking these medications and report any side effects to the doctor immediately. By following your plastic surgeon’s instructions, you will significantly improve the appearance of your eyelids and enjoy the long-term results that blepharoplasty offers.

Results & Infos

The eyes and the anatomical formations surrounding them (eyelids, eyebrows and eyelashes) are the most defining feature of our face and the first to give away our age.

The aim of blepharoplasty is to improve the appearance of the upper and lower eyelids without affecting the anatomy of the eyelids, the shape of the eye and the direction of the palpebral fissure. This is exactly what the blepharoplasty aims at, giving a relaxed and expressive look that always wins impressions.

Blepharoplasty Without Scalpel

This is a new technique in which the excess skin of the upper or lower eyelid is not removed with a scalpel. It is completely bloodless and uses a device that uses the energy of plasma light (plasma light), for example the Plexr (or Plexer) device. With this method we achieve a slight sublimation of the excess skin on the upper and lower eyelid resulting in a tightening of the relaxation points and a visible tightening of the upper or lower eyelid. No burn or necrosis is caused to the skin but only a slight irritation that subsides in the following days.

Due to its non-invasive nature, 2-3 sessions are required to achieve the final result. It is not indicated in cases of severe sagging and fat accumulation on the lower eyelid where classic blepharoplasty will provide the definitive solution.
