For laser liposuction we use the latest generation of hypodermal Νd-YAG Lasers, the innovative Smartlipo Laser. The entire process of laser liposuction is performed under sterile conditions. Initially, the doctor maps the area to be treated and insertion sites are marked. The doctor will then perform a tiny (2-3 mm), not easily noticeable, incision through which the laser fiber will be later inserted. A local anesthetic will be initially injected into the insertion site to numb the area. The anesthetic used in the non invasive laser liposuction contains a solution of xylocaine (lidocaine) and adrenaline, diluted in normal saline.
Once the area is anesthetized, a very fine cannula which contains the laser optical fiber is inserted under the skin through the same incision and directly into the subcutaneous fat. The laser beam is then slowly and methodically guided through the area and directed onto the fat cells. The light, and thus, the thermal energy (energy and heat) from the laser cause the destruction of fat cells that will make their suction easier. In the next phase, a second suction microcannula is inserted trough the incision, which is connected to a negative-pressure pump. The liquefied fat is then suctioned by repetitive movements of the microcannula.
Some amount of fat will be eliminated within the next days through the body’s natural drainage system of waste products, i.e. through the lymphatic circulation. That is why the lipolysis process result will continue for several weeks after treatment.
It is advised to wear a compression binder after the procedure. The incisions will close within the next days without the application of sutures. Overall, the non invasive process of laser assisted liposuction lasts 1 to 2 hours, depending on the size of the treated area. The patient will be asked to return for follow-up examinations one week, one month and three months after the procedure.
Laser liposuction requires only local anesthesia, and is performed at the doctor’s office – clinic, while the traditional liposuction requires hospitalization, sedation, or general anesthesia, which entails greater health risk.
No-scalpel liposuction involves minimal recovery time and patients may resume their daily activities even on the same day. Patients are allowed to start with mild physical exercise 3 to 4 days after the laser liposuction. The traditional liposuction requires longer recovery time, and patients must refrain from work for at least 10 days.
Laser liposuction is relatively painless, both during the procedure (due to the local anesthetic) and after, and patients only feel a mild tenderness upon pressure on the treated area. Traditional liposuction is accompanied by considerable postoperative pain, which complicates the patient’s daily life.
Laser liposuction entails less tissue injury, compared to the traditional procedure, resulting in minimal bruising on the treated area. Thus, after a few days, no one will be able to see that you underwent a procedure. In the traditional procedure, there is more trauma, and quite extensive bruising, which will take weeks to subside.
Laser liposuction leaves no marks or scars on the treated area. The cannulas are much smaller in diameter than those in the traditional procedure, and the incisions are tiny and do not require sutures. With laser liposuction the healing process is completed within a few days from treatment, and the incision will barely be discernible after a few weeks. In traditional liposuction the incisions and cannulas are bigger, and the incisions must be sutured, which leaves a small scar.
With laser liposuction the fat that has been melted is evenly eliminated from the body, leaving the skin tight and smooth, whereas traditional liposuction may leave irregularities on the skin surface (lumps or bumps) which compromises the aesthetic outcome.
No-scalpel liposuction has the added benefit of tightening the skin of the treated area, through the laser’s special wavelength used. Thus there is no sagging skin, which is the principal adverse effect of the traditional procedure. It is therefore the ideal solution for skins that are prone to sagging, and for sensitive areas such as the arms, the inner thighs, or the chin.
Laser assisted liposuction has also impressive results on cellulite, because the fine tools that are used enable the doctor to work superficially, i.e. on the upper layers of the adipose tissue. During the laser assisted liposuction, the emitted light breaks up the septa of the fibrous tissue that are responsible for cellulite. The traditional liposuction cannot be applied on the superficial layers of the adipose tissue, and has no effect on cellulite.
Finally, laser assisted liposuction is a quick, safe, painless, and bloodless procedure that requires no hospitalization. Nowadays, it is the treatment method of choice for active people who can not refrain from their work and their activities for a long time.
Non surgical liposuction leads to substantial inch loss, improves cellulite, and substantially tightens the area. Moreover, patients do not have to refrain from their activities not even for a day, and they may start with mild physical exercise in 3 to 4 days.
Non surgical liposuction continues to win ground against the traditional technique, because it is safer, faster, it is performed under specially equipped office conditions and entails less pain and discomfort for the patients.
