Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that aims at removing the excess fat that has been deposited in various areas of the body. The aim is to improve body shape.
Today, we are able to perform both traditional liposuction and laser liposuction, a more advanced technique that renders liposuction in a safer, easier, faster and less painful manner.
The best candidates for liposuction are individuals of average or only slightly above average weight, who have firm, elastic skin and localized fat deposits on some parts of their body that do not respond well to diet and exercise. It has been clinically observed that a successful liposuction can provide excellent results on cellulite reduction, even if those two are not directly associated.
Liposuction is a very safe technique if performed by a specialized doctor. Liposuction involves a short recovery time. You will be able to return to your daily activities within 2 weeks (with the traditional procedure) or after a few days (with laser liposuction).
Liposuction is good for those who want to improve the body-contour irregularities caused by localized fat deposits.
Liposuction is not an alternative to diet or exercise and is not recommended as an obesity treatment. Moreover, liposuction is not a method for loosing weight, although it has been observed that after liposuction, people regain their self-confidence and decide to follow a balanced diet.
Thus, overweight individuals often observe gradual weight loss after liposuction. Liposuction is an ideal method for healthy people who have normal weight but have localized fat deposits that don’t respond to other methods.
Traditional liposuction counts already 30 years of life in Plastic Surgery. The process has been greatly improved as it is now easier to be applied and involves less risks and minimum downtime.
Traditional liposuction may be performed under general anesthesia (mostly for major procedures), or under local anesthesia (tumescent liposuction – mostly on minor and intermediate procedures), during which the adipose tissue is injected with highly diluted solutions of local anesthetics and adrenaline. Then the plastic surgeon makes a small incision, through which he inserts a cannula, the diameter of which varies depending on the case, attached with a tube to a vacuum pump. With the back and forth movement of the cannula, the adipocytes are detached, suctioned out and in a transparent container. When the desirable amount of fat has been suctioned, the surgeon sutures the incisions. After the end of liposuction, patients must wear a compression garment suitable for the area treated, to avoid postoperative skin laxity.
The results of liposuction are usually visible immediately after the procedure. The treated area’s image will continue to improve for several weeks, even 2-3 months later, as the swelling will subside.
The most important thing is that the results of liposuction are permanent. This happens because the area’s fat cells are destroyed. Of course, patients are advised to follow a balanced diet and perform mild exercise in order to maintain their normal weight. If you gain a little weight after liposuction, the excess fat will be evenly distributed on the rest of the body, leaving the treated area unaffected.
The new SmartLipo technique also achieves satisfying skin tightening, which prevents skin from sagging after the removal of a large amount of fat. Moreover, it breaks the adipose tissue septa between the fat cells that are responsible for the orange-peel look and cellulite. So laser liposuction with the SmartLipo is a solution for type I to type III cellulite.
The cost of liposuction varies depending on the area treated and the technique applied. The cost for liposuction is determined by the size of the problem, the quantity of fat removed and the relevant anatomical difficulty of the area where liposuction will be performed. The aim is always to remove the largest possible amount of fat and to achieve the best possible result.
The cost for liposuction (per session) may also vary for the same area of treatment between patients, because treatment is fully personalized and each person’s needs are different. The duration of the treatment may also vary, which is a significant factor for determining the cost.
The price for liposuction is formed according to each patient’s problem, and according to the duration and difficulty of the procedure. Special package offers apply when more than one areas will be treated.
